A Path with Art

Expressing untold Kashmir

This Art group consists of people from Kashmir, who are interested in exploring and expressing their feelings and experiences of Kashmir though Art-making and creative writing.

In September 2010 in Srinagar - the first workshop called  “Joyful beginnings” was held where the artists brought along their images to the workshop.  During the workshop each person discussed their artwork with Dena lawrence the Art therapist.  The participants described to the group their associated thoughts, feelings, experiences and meaning of their created images. A video was made of this session.

The group participants agreed that:

  • The Art experience provides a way to express their feelings that words cannot.
  • The art making assists in relieving stress and anxiety.
  • The art making provides a way to enhance and explore their creativity.
  • Participants felt the created image provided a way of finding meaning.
  • The Artwork provided a means to communicate current situation in Kashmir to the rest of the world.
  • Participants were interested in meeting regularly for future workshops.
